Improve unilateral exercises UX

Currently the experience is made with simple bilateral exercises in mind, it requires 3 calibration reps and track data for both cables together.

But for unilateral exercises and especially unilateral alternating exercises like:

  • Alternating Lunges (long bar)

  • Alternating Crossover Punch (handles)

This is confusing and makes the detailed exercise data difficult or impossible to use accurately.

Motivation

Many people use unilateral exercises to track and improve muscle imbalances, so it’s very important to them to track which side did what. They also usually choose with the weaker side first so we can’t force users to start with a specific side or assume.

Suggestions:

  • Enable tagging sides

    • For one-sided unilateral exercises, tag Left/Right side

    • For alternating exercises, tag if the initial rep is on side is Left or Right

  • Track the reps, force, timings etc. stats for each side separately.

  • Adjust calibration

    • For alternating exercises:

      1. make user select starting side (can have a default)

      2. can have 2-3 calibration reps for each side.

    • For one-sided unilateral exercises, the current calibration with 3 reps is fine

  • Adjust UI to show which side the next rep is to be done at.
